An Update: Tristan Charboneau

Heartbreak for American star

After claiming a handful of victories in his rookie season, Tristan Charboneau was expected to contend for the EMX250 title with ASTES4-TESAR Yamaha this year. Those plans were scuppered just a couple of weeks ago, however, as he sustained a knee injury during training at Ottobiano.

"Two and a half weeks ago at Ottobiano, in Italy, I had a very small crash coming over the hump before the finish line," Tristan Charboneau explained in a statement from Yamaha. "It was very cold out and the ground was really hard and cold. The front just came out from under me and I thought ‘I will slide this one out and get up' but, as I was sliding, I twisted my leg and heard my knee pop super badly, so I knew instantly that something was wrong.

"Four days later I went and got an MRI, it was the soonest I could get in, and they told me I had a bi-lateral tear and that there was a piece of my meniscus that had broken off and was floating around," Charboneau continued. "Apparently that is where most of the pain is coming from. It has been difficult to accept."

It remains to be seen when Tristan Charboneau will return to action with ASTES4-TESAR Yamaha. However, in the same statement, he confirmed that he will head to the USA immediately and not return until he is ready to battle for race wins.
