Wilson takes AUS-X Open win

Night one concludes in Australia.

Night one concludes in Australia.

Dean Wilson returned to the top step of the podium on Saturday night at the AUS-X Open, a popular off-season race that is held in Sydney each year. Nathan Crawford took the holeshot in the SX1 main event, but was quickly demoted by fellow countryman Dan Reardon. Wilson eventually worked his way to the front, however, and eventually took the victory by just under two seconds over Jason Anderson. Anderson fell earlier night, but still managed to claw his back through the field.

"It’s been a long time since I’ve won a race and to do it in front of you Aussie fans, it’s just amazing," Wilson said. "We’re having such a good time over here and I really love this country. All the support I’m getting, I’m really grateful to be here. It was cool to see old Dan [Dan Reardon] leading a few laps for the Aussie crowd and Jason was just ripping, so that was good fun. I’m really happy."
