Thomas Covington received some heat from fans, after struggling to stay upright in the slop at the Motocross of Nations. This news may alter the way that you view his ride, however, as he tore his ACL in the qualification race and pushed through the pain on race day! Considering the deep ruts, it was a remarkable showing from a guy who laid it all on the line for his country.
"Some bad news this morning guys," Covington wrote on his social media. "I've just left the doctor and found out I tore my ACL in the qualification race Saturday in England. I had quite a bit of pain Sunday but didn't want to accept it. Only wanted to focus on getting USA to the podium. I'll be having surgery tomorrow morning and starting recovery as soon as possible to be ready for the 2018 season," he concluded.
The extent of the injury has not yet been determined nor has a recovery time. Covington's initial plans were to stay in Belgium all off-season and work on his weaknesses, ahead of a title run next year, but his preparation will obviously be limited somewhat now.
