Stephen Rubini attempted to make a huge jump this year, as he vacated the EMX125 division and dropped straight into MX2 with the Monster Energy KRT MX2 outfit. The start of the season was rather disastrous for the Frenchman, but he turned it around somewhat and ended the season with a ninth place in a moto at the MXGP of Pays de Montbeliard.
Despite that, Rubini could only manage to secure twenty-seventh in the final standings. Monster Energy KRT MX2 will not be around next season and, with a shortage of positive results, some wondered if Rubini would find a new deal in the FIM Motocross World Championship. The Silver Action KTM team, who Rubini rode for a year ago, still have faith in him though, as they have signed him for next year. Rubini will remain in the MX2 class, but it remains to be seen if the deal will include the various flyaway events.
