MX Vice: So, to start with, let’s talk about your 2016 season. What would you consider to be your most notable highs and lows, and overall how would you summarise the year?

Josh Bassett: I would say that my highest point in the 2016 season was my second overall finish at Brookthorpe in the Judd Racing Premier Cup, in which I managed to get a fourth in the overall championship. My lowest point was probably at the ORMS team event when I crashed out of the lead with two laps to go meaning I had to settle for second. Overall, my last year on the 65 was a good one to finish on.

Josh Bassett is eager for success in his first year on a SW85 (Ian Bassett)

2016 was your last year on the 65, how has the transition been in the last few months moving up to the bigger SW85?

It hasn’t really been too bad; the only issue I’ve found has been my size, which means it’s a little harder to control the bike. But, overall, I’m enjoying the power although I have already had a few problems riding over the winter.

What are your goals for the 2017 season?

To win an overall championship in the SW85 class. That’s pretty much it. A championship title is the only thing I haven’t had despite the amount of wins I’ve had over the years, I just need to piece it all together to win a series.

What do you think you need to do in order to replicate the dominant performances you had in the 65cc class last year?

Concentrate, try not to focus on the negative things that happen over the season and, of course, be fast!

Finally, tell me something interesting about yourself that people don’t already know.

I play a lot of Call of Duty and I am master prestige on Black Ops 3. My favourite type of food is pizza, which of course is a perfect diet for motocross. My favourite movie is Transformers Dark of the Moon and my favourite TV shows are Family Guy and American Dad.
