Tom Grimshaw is a 15-year-old from Hertfordshire. He has just stepped up to a Yamaha 250f from a 125! We caught up with him to see what his plans are for the season…
MX Vice: So obviously you’ve just raced at Hawkstone for the Hawkstone International, how did it go for you?
Tom Grimshaw: I was really looking forward to Hawkstone and trained hard for it hoping to come away with a solid result, it went much better than I could've hoped for and walked away with the overall. Track was mega and the weather was good.
What series’ are you doing this year?
I will be competing in MXY2 class at the Maxxis which will be awesome and also the British Youth Nationals which always provides close racing so really looking forward to that. The original plan was to do another season on the 125 to compete in the EMX125 class but as I have all my school exams this year which would stop me travelling to Europe most weekends. I have decided to jump onto a 250 to gain experience on the bike as the plan for 2018 is to go MX2 at the Maxxis. As soon as I jumped onto my Yamaha 250f I straight away gelled with the bike and felt very comfortable to ride.
How did you get on last year?
Last year I started strong picking up some wins but unfortunately about halfway through the year I broke my arm which put a massive dent into my championship hopes. Once recovered I ended the year strong picking up some solid results.
What are your expectations for 2017?
I am hoping with the championships I am competing in is to finish top 3 with fingers crossed might net me a championship.
Is there anyone you would like to thank for the help throughout the last 12 months?
I am very fortunate to be well supported with sponsorship in my racing and would like to thank them for their support.
