The MXGP of Sardegna officially got underway under bright Mediterranean sunshine as the traditional Opening Press Conference set the tone for another spectacular weekend of racing at the iconic Riola Sardo circuit.
Bringing together key figures from the championship, local authorities, along with home riders Valerio Lata form Honda HRC Petronas riding in MX2, the press conference highlighted the importance of Sardegna as a long-standing and strategic stop on the MXGP calendar, as well as the strong collaboration between the sport and the region. With its deep sand and technical layout, the venue once again promises to deliver one of the most demanding and exciting Grands Prix of the season with the plethora of World Class riders
David Luongo (Infront Moto Racing CEO & President): “Sardegna is always a special destination for all of us, not only because of the beauty of the island and the great weather we enjoy at this time of the year, but also because this Grand Prix has become one of the most demanding of the season. The deep sand track really pushes the riders to their limits and always delivers fantastic racing. At the same time, this event is a great example of how MXGP can bring strong benefits to a region, especially at this period before the summer season. We have built a very strong relationship with the local and regional authorities and the organiser, who continues to improve the facilities year after year. It’s always a pleasure to be back here, and we hope to continue in Sardegna for many years to come.”
Antonio Alia (FIM / CMS Director): “From the FIM side, we are very pleased to see the strong synergy between all the parties involved in this event. The collaboration between the promoter, the local authorities, and the organising club is a great example of how a Grand Prix should be developed. Over the years, this event has reached a very high standard and has become a reference for other venues around the world. It is also important to highlight how this event promotes not only Sardegna but Italy as a whole. With great weather and the best riders in the world present, everything is in place for a fantastic weekend of racing.”
Valerio Lata (Honda HRC Petronas): “It’s really special for me to race here, as it’s my home Grand Prix and one of my favourite tracks on the calendar. The circuit is very demanding with the deep sand, and it’s completely different compared to most of the other tracks, so preparation is very important. I spent a lot of time here during the winter training and working with the team, especially on the bike setup for these conditions. Sardegna is also a beautiful place, so it’s always nice to come here and I’m really looking forward to the weekend.”
Stefano Piano (Private Secretary of Tourism Department of Sardegna Region): “This event is very important for promoting Sardegna around the world. It perfectly connects sport and tourism, showcasing the unique characteristics of our island. We are very proud to welcome MXGP and to share our territory with an international audience.”
Alessandro Solinas (Sardegna Region Councillor & President of the Budget Commission): “We are proud to host this event again and we are committed to supporting it for many years. MXGP brings great value to Sardegna, not only during the race weekend but throughout the year. It is an investment that generates strong returns for our economy and our visibility worldwide.”
Lorenzo Pinna (Mayor of Riola Sardo): “We are very proud to host this Grand Prix. It’s the result of years of hard work and collaboration, and it brings important benefits not only to our town but to all of Sardegna. Our community is fully involved and honoured to be part of such an important international event.”
Fulvio Maiorca (Moto School Riola MC President): “Year after year we continue to improve the track and facilities. Thanks to the support from the region, we can keep developing the event and aim to host MXGP here for many more years. Our goal is always to offer the best possible conditions for riders, teams, and fans.”
With perfect weather conditions and one of the most technical tracks on the calendar awaiting the riders, everything is set for an unforgettable MXGP of Sardegna. As the world’s best prepare to tackle the deep sands of Riola Sardo, fans can expect intense battles, spectacular racing, and another exciting chapter in this iconic Grand Prix.
