Sara Andersen Ends Professional WMX Career

Sara Andersen has announced that she has made the difficult decision to step back from professional motorsport. While she will continue to ride for fun, her professional racing career has come to an end.

It is a shame, as Andersen had the potential to run at the front of the WMX, but due to the financial side of the sport she was forced to make this decision.

We wish her all the best for the future and hope to continue seeing her regularly in the paddock.

Andersen shared the news via social media:

It is time to say goodbye. I love this sport, and saying goodbye to my dreams and to the sport I love is the hardest decision I have ever had to make. I love racing, but there is a financial side to the sport that I can no longer keep up with.

Motocross has always been a part of my life, and I don’t know life without it. I am incredibly thankful for both the good and the bad moments I have experienced, and for all the people I have met along the way. I may not have achieved my ultimate goal, but I have come a long way. From being a little girl from a country where most people don’t even know what motocross is, to battling with the best women in the world.

Regardless of the results, I can say that I worked extremely hard and did everything I could with the opportunities I had. To have been among the best women in the world for so many years, despite always having to combine racing with other commitments, is something I am very proud of.

Some of my proudest moments include becoming the very first FIM Women’s European Champion at the age of 15 on a 125cc bike against 250cc machines. Standing on the podium at the World Championship at the age of 18 as the first – and so far only – Danish female rider. And after struggling for years, returning to that same podium was something very special.

22 seasons, 3 European titles, 11 national championships, and countless other victories and unforgettable moments that I will one day look back on with pride.
