Yamaha Motor Unveils Electric ‘YE-01 Racing Concept’ – Preparing for Future Entry into the MXEP Class

Yamaha Motor has unveiled the ‘YE-01 Racing Concept’, a newly developed electric motocross machine created in preparation for future participation in the MXEP class (Electric Motocross) at selected rounds of the Motocross World Championship.

Developed in close collaboration with strategic partner Electric Motion (EM), the YE-01 is heavily based on the upcoming 2026 generation YZ450F. This joint project combines advanced technologies from both Yamaha and EM, with the goal of delivering an electric motocross bike that matches the performance and riding experience of Yamaha’s current production models.

The YE-01 Racing Concept uses a YZ450F chassis equipped with a fully adjustable KYB front fork and rear shock, ensuring a ride quality comparable to Yamaha’s production motocross bikes. Its design, inspired by the latest YZ450F, features a compact, slim and streamlined body and a flat seat, allowing the rider to move freely and comfortably.

Developed specifically for motocross, the YE-01 features a liquid-cooled electric powertrain that, according to Yamaha, can deliver MXGP-level performance. It is equipped with a hydraulic clutch, while the battery placement provides an optimized center of gravity, similar to the reverse-head engine layout found on the YZ450F.

Following the example of Yamaha’s production bikes, the YE-01 offers adjustable power modes and rider aids such as traction control, enabling the ideal setup for any racing condition.

The development of the YE-01 aligns with Yamaha Motor’s company-wide goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 across the entire product lifecycle – from manufacturing to business operations. By racing the YE-01 in the MXEP class, Yamaha aims to further enhance its technical expertise, knowledge, and understanding to help shape the future of electric motorsport.
