Drama for Kay de Wolf as Simon Längenfelder Crowned MX2 World Champion

Sacha Coenen took victory in the second moto, which was brought to an early end with a red flag. Simon Längenfelder finished fifth, a result that secured him the MX2 World Championship title. Kay de Wolf, who was on course for the crown, was forced to retire with mechanical problems.

In dry opening conditions, Coenen grabbed the lead ahead of De Wolf, who passed Längenfelder and caused the German to go down. But heavy rain hit in the second lap, turning the track into a mud bath. Längenfelder struggled badly in the downpour, crashing twice and dropping outside the top ten. De Wolf gave chase to Coenen and was virtually in position to become the new championship leader when his Husqvarna developed issues and forced him out of the race.

When the moto was red-flagged, Rick Elzinga secured third place, De Wolf was still classified in fifth, Kay Karssemakers impressed with seventh, and Jens Walvoort also broke into the top ten with ninth.

Thanks to his classification and the early stoppage, De Wolf still claimed the overall Grand Prix victory, finishing ahead of Längenfelder and Valerio Lata.
