Kiara Fontanesi claimed victory in the second moto of the Grand Prix of Turkey. The Italian rider took the lead on the opening lap and never looked back. Behind her, Spain’s Daniela Guillen secured second place, while Martine Hughes completed the podium in third.
World Championship leader Lotte van Drunen had a difficult start, dropping back to 11th position in the opening stages. The Dutch rider mounted a strong comeback and closed in on Hughes but was unable to make a pass for third, eventually finishing fourth.
Danee Gelissen crossed the line in seventh, followed by Shana van der Vlist in eighth.
With a second place finish in Saturday’s moto and today’s victory, Fontanesi secured the overall Grand Prix win ahead of Guillen and Hughes. In the championship standings, Van Drunen retains the red plate with 218 points, Guillen sits second with 206 points, and Fontanesi drops one position to third with 202 points.
Fontanesi’s demotion in the standings, despite her Grand Prix win, was the result of a five-point penalty she received after race two for jumping under yellow flags.
