The Flying Fish returns to Farleigh Castle

Rob Herring returns to his old stomping ground, to race at the historic Somerset Farleigh Castle Grand Prix circuit synonymous with the heyday of MX.

“The fish” needs no introduction to anyone who knows anything about 90’s and 00’s racing. He grew up on the hard pack South African tracks, but he came to race in the UK full time at the age of 17 and brought with him a style nobody had seen previously.  His raw speed was matched with a flamboyant Supercross riding style that captivated the country.

Herring raced 250 GPs from 1987 through 1998 before moving onto the 500 GPs. He was part of the legendary 1994 winning MXDN squad that broke the USA team’s thirteen-year streak. He was on the British team many times during his MX career and went on to be the team manager for the British nations team for seven years.

His career has moved on and these days he is an accomplished stuntman as well as the rider for the on-board cameras for many cinematic blockbusters.

He is racing one of the DocWob built 2002 Yamaha YZ 250’s in the 70th anniversary livery with his familiar number 19 in the plus 50 class. His mechanic for the weekend is former GP mechanic turned F1 pit crew Chris Churchill. He is certainly one to watch on the bike as well as being one of the most approachable guys in the pits.

Tickets are available online and with a lineup of incredible racers. Farleigh Castle Vets MX promises to be an unforgettable experience for fans and riders alike.
