Glenn Coldenhoff and Fantic Extend Top-5 Streak at the MXGP of Sweden

The final quarter of the 2025 FIM Motocross World Championship is now well underway – and Fantic Factory Racing MXGP secured another top-5 result, as Uddevalla’s Glimminge Motorstadion, with its packed hills and glorious sunshine, provided the perfect backdrop for a spectacular race weekend.

The MXGP of Sweden was off to a promising start – a dominant holeshot aboard the Fantic XXF 450 put Glenn Coldenhoff in a strong position in Saturday’s qualifying race. The experienced Dutchman avoided mistakes on the tricky hard-pack track and settled into fourth place after the opening lap. It didn’t take him long to find his rhythm, and he maintained a fast pace throughout the race to secure fourth place.

Andrea Bonacorsi also got a strong launch out of the gate, but he lost some ground heading into the first turn and found himself mid-pack, just like Brian Bogers. With lap times so close and the competitiveness in the MXGP class at an incredibly high level, it wasn’t easy to move forward, but eventually they crossed the line in 13th and 16th.

Coldenhoff’s start was strong again in race 1 on Sunday, but he couldn’t quite find the ideal line through turn 1, emerging in ninth. After a hectic first few laps, the Fantic Factory Racing MXGP star improved his pace and moved up to a solid sixth place. Bonacorsi was unlucky to hit the gate, forcing him to fight his way into the top 10 – which he successfully did – while Bogers was close behind in 11th, also setting fast lap times. “Bona” charged hard throughout the race and gained another spot with two laps to go, finishing ninth, while Bogers just missed out on the top 10.

In race 2, Bonacorsi was well placed right after the start, but things took an unfortunate turn just a couple of corners later when another rider made a mistake, leaving the Italian with no chance to avoid the crash. While Bona had to restart from the back of the field, Coldenhoff took over as the leading Fantic rider in seventh. He pushed hard but couldn’t quite close the small gap to the lead group. Still, he crossed the line in fifth, gaining a spot on the final lap as the leader tipped over, and secured fifth overall – extending his impressive streak of top-5 results to six consecutive Grands Prix.

For Bogers, it was tough to move forward after a less-than-ideal start, and 18th in race 2 left him 15th overall. Bonacorsi did the best he could to recover after the first-lap incident, and 14th place was rewarded with ninth overall on the day.

In the standings, Coldenhoff strengthened his hold on third place, while Bonacorsi also managed to maintain his strong sixth position 16 rounds into the season. Up next is a special event on the calendar: the MXGP of The Netherlands, the much-anticipated home round for both Coldenhoff and Bogers, as well as the Fantic Factory Racing MXGP team, will take place next weekend in the sand of Arnhem.

Speaking of the Netherlands – in case you missed the news – Glenn Coldenhoff has been selected to represent his country at the prestigious Motocross of Nations, set to take place at Ironman Raceway in the United States on October 5.

Glenn Coldenhoff:
“I felt quite good all weekend. On Saturday I pulled a big holeshot – probably the biggest of the year. Starting on the mesh, the differences are usually very small, but that start was just perfect and I was turning alone – it felt great. On Sunday, my starts were a bit off, which is a bit weird after such a great one on Saturday. In race 1, I was in a bad position in the first turn, and lost a lot of positions. In the second race my start was maybe even worse, but I was able to manage the first few turns better. I gained a few positions and some guys in front also made mistakes, but 6-5 was the best I could do this weekend. Still, it is my sixth top 5 in a row, the consistency is really good. Obviously, we want more, and with my home GP coming up – when you see what Gifting was able to do, the home crowd went crazy and gives you just that extra boost – I hope we can enjoy a good weekend in Arnhem.”

Andrea Bonacorsi:
“I was feeling pretty good on a pretty hard track, and I had a good feeling with my Fantic. Unfortunately, things didn’t go our way. In race 1, I hit the gate and had a bad start. In race 2, I was in a good position, inside the top 10, but then there was contact with Lucas [Coenen] and we both went down. I had to restart dead last, and I tried to fight back, but on this track, it was very difficult to make passes. Still, I managed to finish inside the top 10 overall – not too bad, but with the way I was riding I know the result could have been better. Now we head to Arnhem, the home GP for the team and also a bit for me by now, and we definitely like sand – I can’t wait!”

Brian Bogers:
“My riding was quite good in race 1, and I was actually surprised how rough the track had become – and I felt better in these conditions compared to Saturday, when it was still quite flat. I managed to finish eleventh, despite not having a great start, and was pretty pleased with how I felt in that race. I can’t really explain what happened in the second race though, I just didn’t feel it in the first couple of laps, I didn’t ride well and found myself outside the top 20. I tried to come back a little but with the start and the first few laps being so important on this track, there wasn’t much I could do. Next up is the home round, I am really looking forward to it, let’s have a good one in Arnhem!”
