Jett Lawrence dominated the first moto of the AMA Pro Motocross in Southwick. He immediately took the lead and quickly built a gap. Hunter Lawrence rode a controlled race in second place, while the battle for third unfolded behind him. Aaron Plessinger held that position during the early part of the race, but Jorge Prado and Eli Tomac managed to pass him. Tomac then set his sights on Prado and began applying pressure to the Spaniard.
However, with seven minutes to go, Prado went down and had to surrender third place to Tomac. He ultimately finished fifth, just behind Aaron Plessinger.
In addition to Prado, Harri Kullas also secured a top-ten finish in ninth place, making it two Europeans in the top ten. Cornelius Toendel ran in seventh for much of the race but ended up eleventh. Benoit Paturel also made it into the top fifteen with a solid fourteenth-place finish.
