Romain Febvre takes the MXGP red plate to Germany

The Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP will mount the #3 red plate of the series points-leader for the third consecutive round of the FIM MXGP Motocross World Championship to Romain Febvre’s KX450-SR at Teutschenthal in central Germany this weekend.

The French rider has never previously enjoyed such a strong start to the campaign; with four moto victories, three GP wins and eight GP podiums during the first nine rounds of the series he has established a commanding lead of forty-seven points over his nearest rival and aims to build on that this weekend at the Talkessel, the midway stage of the championship. Since Portugal, where he collected the red plate for the first time this season, he has been highly successful with a second position in Portugal and back-to-back GP victories in Spain and France. After an emotional home GP at Ernée last weekend, Romain returns this weekend to the switchback track in Germany where he took the MXGP red plate for the first time in his career ten years ago; he has a successful record at Teutschenthal with one GP victory, three GP podiums and ten top-five motos. His speed and consistency this year is emphasized yet further by the fact that he has mounted the podium on each of the last eleven weekends in either the Dutch or World Championship.

The Kawasaki Racing Team line-up is completed in MXGP by Pauls Jonass, now recovered from recent sickness, and in the FIM MX2 World Championship by Mathis Valin who claimed his third top-five moto finish of the campaign last weekend.

Romain Febvre: “To win at home is always special! Everything was there last weekend at Ernée to enjoy a great win in front of so many fans; what an exceptional weekend! It was the first time that I came to my home GP with the red plate, and to win like that was great. At the moment I feel in great shape, I love the bike, I have everything I need to perform and I feel no pressure at all with the red plate. We did some more testing this week with the team,

and I have a good feeling at the moment and that’s the most important; Teutschenthal is not an easy track as the ground is different throughout the circuit, but I will do my best as always.”

Antti Pyrhonen: “Ernée was a very, very good start for these three back-to-back races! Romain had an incredibly strong home GP so let’s try to maintain the momentum! We were testing again this week; we are always trying to improve yet further for the coming races. We have more positive news regarding Pauls. He had a very bad flu for ten days, and he suffered a lot in France, but now he feels much better; he was able to train and he should be back to his usual level and be able to enjoy racing again. Mathis gained momentum at Ernée so he just needs to carry on building from there. It’s an important period with three back-to-back races; we keep maximum focus.”
