The former multiple schoolboy British champion, Welsh champion, under 21 champion, British 4 stroke and vets champ – Glen Phillips has signed up to race in the original International Vets MX event in the UK. Held at the historic Farleigh Castle Grand Prix circuit on the weekend of September 11th – 14th.
Simply put – Phillips is one of the most naturally gifted racers to come from the Valleys. He’s a hard charger who gives and expects no quarter in the heat of battle. The popular 43-year-old Welshman who hails from Mountain Ash is excited for the opportunity to come back to “the field of dreams” to show his speed and style around the famous grassy hillside circuit. Phillips went on a huge fitness push last year to lose 50lbs to be back to fighting fit-he then went to become the oldest guy ever to score British championship points at the time. Make no mistake he will be in the contention for the honours that’s for sure.
The Farleigh Castle Vets MX is the original of the now popular Vets International races, still the only event to have 60 riders on each line up. Imagine the sound of 60 two-strokes all on the start gate, now that’s the stuff that gets the hairs on the back of your neck to stand up – it is certainly not to be missed.
The weekend starts when the gates open at 12 noon on Thursday, September 11th, for weekend campers. There is plenty to do before the racing action commences, including time to meander through the trade village, open paddocks, catch up with friends and on track rivals and bag yourself some event merch, take a track walk or feast your eyes on the array of two strokes and twin shocks lovingly restored.
With the gate dropping on the racing action on Saturday morning, racers, young and not so young, past and present will take to the sixty strong line-up to go bar to bar just like the good old days of mx scrambling.
Spectator tickets and camping passes for the event are now live and they will be offering weekend tickets alongside Saturday or Sunday only tickets. Family tickets and camping passes are also available.
