The Dutch Masters of Motocross titles were decided on Sunday at the Markelo circuit. Casey Karstrom (85cc), Douwe van Mechgelen (125cc), Cas Valk (250cc), and Romain Febvre (500cc) all secured their championship titles.
The Markelo track was in top condition, and thanks to the dry weather in recent days, it was harder than in previous years. In the 500cc class, spectators witnessed an epic showdown between Jeffrey Herlings and Romain Febvre. With a second-place finish in the first moto, Febvre had already done enough to clinch the title. However, both riders went all-in for the overall win in the second moto. Herlings took the holeshot with Febvre right behind him, and the two battled wheel-to-wheel for the entire race. Herlings crossed the finish line first, ahead of Febvre and Jago Geerts. Due to missing the first round with a knee injury, Herlings ended up fourth in the final standings, behind Brian Bogers, Jago Geerts, and champion Romain Febvre.
Cas Valk continued his dominant run in Markelo, winning both motos and remaining unbeaten in the championship. This marks his first 250cc class title. Kay Karssemakers made a strong comeback from injury, finishing a solid second overall (2-2) ahead of Damien Knuiman (3-4). In the championship standings, Knuiman secured an impressive second place, with David Braceras in third.
The 125cc class delivered edge-of-your-seat excitement. The title fight was only decided in the penultimate lap of the final moto. Dean Gregoire and Douwe van Mechgelen entered the last race tied in points. They raced side-by-side the entire moto, but a mistake from Gregoire in the penultimate lap allowed Van Mechgelen to take the lead and the win—securing the championship title ahead of Gregoire and Dani Heitink.
In the 85cc class, the championship remained undecided until the very end. Ultimately, Kasey Karstrom managed to narrowly beat Torre van Mechgelen for the title, with Gregor Lootus finishing third overall in the championship. In Markelo, Harry Dale dominated both motos in the 85cc class, scoring maximum points and taking the overall win ahead of Jarno Len Jansen (2-2) and Brian Gyles (3-3).
At the end of the day, all champions were awarded the 24MX Golden Plate. This special award is an initiative by 24MX– https://www.24mx.nl.
