Bertram Thorius of the De Baets MX Team had a valuable learning experience during the fifth round of the EMX125 Championship, held in Frauenfeld, Switzerland.
Qualifying went well for Bertram. He managed to put in a strong and sharp lap time, securing eighth place in his group and comfortably qualifying for the races.
The first moto started off with misfortune. After getting a good jump off the gate, another rider crashed right in front of him. Bertram got caught in the rider’s rear wheel and had to start from the back of the field. Despite two crashes during his comeback ride, his pace was strong. He finished just outside the points and was motivated to improve in the second moto.
In moto two, Bertram didn’t get a great start and had to work his way through the pack once again. He pushed up to 19th place but, with ten minutes to go, another rider made a block pass on him, causing a crash. Bertram hit his head in the fall, and although he was on track to score points, the crash ended his chances. Still, he took away a lot of valuable lessons and is already looking forward to the next EMX125 round, which will take place in Águeda, Portugal on the weekend of May 3–4.
