Tyla van de Poel from the de Baets MX team finished in the top ten in one moto during the first race of the EMX125 Championship in Cozar, Spain. Van de Poel showed good speed throughout the weekend, but crashes in both motos meant he had to settle for a ninth-place finish in the second moto. Bertram Thorius crashed at the start of both motos and fought his way back to 22nd and 23rd places.
Due to heavy rainfall, the organizers were forced to combine the free practice and qualifying sessions on Saturday. As a result, there was less time than usual to adjust to the track. Despite the difficult conditions, Tyla had a good feeling on the track and managed to set a solid sixth-fastest time in his group. Bertram set the 17th-fastest time, which was enough to qualify for the race.
In the first moto, Tyla didn’t get a good start but quickly made up several positions. He worked his way up to 13th place but then suffered from arm pump. This led to several crashes, and he eventually finished in 23rd place. Bertram had a good start but unfortunately crashed in the first corner, which forced him to start from the back of the pack. He steadily worked his way forward and finished the moto in 22nd place.
The conditions in the second moto were even worse than in the first, as it rained heavily again overnight from Saturday to Sunday. Once again, Tyla didn’t get a great start but worked his way up to fifth place during the race. Unfortunately, he crashed three times, but he managed to limit the damage and finished a solid ninth. Bertram had another good start, but this time he crashed in the second corner. He had to fight his way back through the field again, and on the challenging track, he gained several positions and finished 23rd.
In the overall standings, Tyla finished in 16th place, while Bertram ended the weekend in 27th place. The second race of the championship will take place next weekend in St. Jean d’Angely, France.
