AX: Celebs go racing

To help celebrate the 100th night of Arenacross tomorrow night at Manchester’s AO Arena, more racing is being added to the action-packed show, and it could well be the most entertaining race of the night as ‘Celebs go racing!’

Celebrities from TV, Radio, Pop, Rock, Motorsports and YouTube will getting kitted up and ready to entertain the crowd by giving it their best shot racing Kawasaki KLX140R minibikes around the full Arenacross track.

Kelvin Fletcher, Shane Lynch, O.J Borg, Dan Bewley, Mark McCann and Rick Parfitt Jr will be all revved up to try and get the win and if not, at least leave with their pride intact. All of them are used to high pressure situations but as we all know a lot can happen in Arenacross and once the gate drops the adrenaline and expectation levels will spike. All six celebrity competitors have an interest in motorcycling, but some clearly more than others are clearly throwing themselves in the deep end, so expect a degree of carnage and shenanigans when the gate drops.

Former Emmerdale actor and 2019 Strictly Come Dancing winner Kelvin Fletcher used to ride motocross as a kid and still loves the sport. Maybe this race experience we’ll see him build a track at his farm and feature it on his new TV show ‘Fletcher’s Family Farm’ on ITV-X? Shane Lynch made no secret of being a ‘petrol head’ whilst being in ‘Boyzone’ and then showed that passion after his pop career by making a name for himself as a drift driver, so he likes to go fast and get sideways. Radio 2 DJ, O.J Borg has a passion for motorsports and gaming and he’s also a keen cyclist, but this time he’ll be using petrol power to do his talking. Former youth motocross racer turned Speedway star, Dan Bewley, will arguably be starting as favourite. The two-time British champion, Grand Prix winner and World Cup champion will have the biggest target on his back. Mark McCann, as many will know, is no stranger to the sport running his own team in Arenacross with championship success, but most people will now know him from his Mark McCann 64 YouTube channel where you can watch him thrash around his expensive car collection, so he’ll have no issues of running it in on the last corner for the win. And last, but not least of the six celebrity contenders is Rick Parfitt Jr. Rick is a genuine showman a successful GT car racer. He often gets a crowd eating out of his hand as frontman of his JRP band, following in his famous father’s footsteps into the music industry. Last year, the RJP band kicked off the Isle of Wight Festival to great effect, so he’s used to performing in front of lively crowds, but this will be a very different ‘showtime!’

The stage is set, the heat is on. May the best Celeb win. Bring it on.
