Nicolas Vennekens of VNT Racing KTM has had a strong start to the season. During the first round of the Italian MX2 Championship in Mantova, Vennekens finished thirteenth in the overall standings.
On Saturday, the weather conditions were good. Nicolas completed his start training and rode several laps. Feeling confident, he looked forward to race day on Sunday.
However, the weather changed, and it started to rain. The track turned into a wet and muddy circuit. In the time practice, he quickly found his rhythm, but his lap time was not what he expected. Despite this, he remained positive and focused on preparing for the first moto.
At the start of the first moto, he got away reasonably well, but upon entering the first corner, mud flew everywhere, blocking his vision. As a result, he had to ease off the throttle to avoid trouble. Nicolas rode a consistent race and crossed the finish line in sixteenth place.
At the start of the second moto, he had wheelspin on the starting grid and had to begin the race from dead last. He put in a strong comeback ride, climbing all the way up to twelfth place. However, due to a crash, he lost one position and finished in thirteenth.
With a 16-13 in the motos, Nicolas secured a thirteenth-place finish in the overall classification. This week, he will remain in Italy and compete in the second round of the championship in Montevarchi next weekend.
