Marco Maddii speaks about the preparation of Ducati

Among the top teams of the 2025 edition of the Internazionali d’Italia di Motocross EIMCA series there will be for the first time the two factory Ducati Desmo 450MX managed by the Maddii team, to find out how Mattia Guadagnini and Jeremy Seewer spent the winter preparing we spoke with Marco Maddii.

“Ciao Marco, new year, new adventure, after having won the Italian MX1 title, you will face the challenge of the MXGP season, how is your winter going?”

MM: “Very good I would say, we have new riders, a new bike that is the evolution of last year’s and there is a lot to do but everything is going in the right direction. The winter was good, we went ahead as planned both with training and testing. For sure development requires a lot of effort and we have to dedicate more time to testing sometimes but that we certainly have not neglected training and it is normal at this time to focus on the development of the bike.”

“A big job that requires a lot of effort, do you feel like you are making progress?”

MM: “Yes, everything is going well, the bike is improving at every test, the riders are improving and we think we are working in the right direction; the tests have always gone in the right direction and we have managed to improve in different areas. Now the riders need to train consistently to build a good base for the season.”

“What condition will you have for Mantova?”

MM: “Not yet 100% fit, like almost everyone else, but we think we are at the right level. Our season will be progressive, we will not arrive at our best in Argentina but the season is really long and is not a bad thing.”

“Working with a rider like Seewer who has been developing factory bikes like Yamaha and Kawasaki for years, is it a good way to grow for you too?”

MM: “Yes, we’re learning a lot from Jeremy, he is a rider who pays attention to details, he pays attention to everything and always provides a lot of guidance. He is also a simple person who is easy to get along with and we also get along well with his need to have the bike in order, as we like it. Jeremy really likes the technical part, he knows the technical stuff and can explain himself well. There is no doubt that we are growing both with the new riders and working with Ducati. In these two years I have gained a lot of experience, the technical level required is very high and you have to be very prepared.”

“With Mattia, on the other hand, there was a return to the past, you already knew each other very well.”

MM: “With Mattia everything is going great, it seems like we have found ourselves where we left off, as if time had not passed. He arrived with a little lack of preparation due to the injury he suffered in Spain but we found him grown and matured, more precise in his comments, he knows much more about what he wants and the tests went in the right direction. He is learning to know the bike and is working on the technical aspect that he previously cared less about.”

“We know that Seewer is a very demanding rider, how does he get on with Ducati?”

MM: “Ducati is following Jeremy’s requests in every way, demonstrating great availability. Many changes have been made to adapt the bike to his riding style, even if you can’t see much from the outside and there’s still a lot to do but I think that in 2/3 months we should be at a very high level, reaching the maximum potential of our bike.

“You have obviously set yourself goals for this year, what are they?”

MM: “The bike performs very well, there are no serious problems to fix, the package is already very competitive and for this reason our goal is high, we want to get to have the best bike in the paddock, even if we are aware that the others have many years of experience but as we have already seen in the two MXGP races last year, we are already at a good level.”

“Has the bike changed a lot compared to last season’s?”

MM: “It’s as if an update was made on the 2024 model year, it’s the same base with many new details, it’s an evolution of the one with which we won the Italian title. For the Internazionali the goal is to do well, get on the podium and always be in the top five with both. Those are fundamental races to do excellent training, do a few starts with the others and to understand where we are and run everything in for Argentina.”

“Ducati’s new adventure in MXGP begins in Argentina”

MM: “I think we can have a good season, I hope Jeremy can give us some podiums, something quite usual for him; we’ll see where we are after a few races. We’ll start on the up and so we should have a bit of patience, work hard and do our best. For Mattia it will be the same, the expectations on him are high and if everything goes well he can give us some good races, in training he’s not far from Jeremy.”

The races will be broadcast live on Federmoto.TV at 12:30, with the voice of Marco Gualdani and his guests in the commentary booth and the news from the Pitlane by Lorenzo Resta.
