FIM World Supercross Championship reveals 14 full-time riders in SX2 250cc class ahead of season-opening WSX Canadian GP
As the countdown continues for the opening round of the 2024 season, the FIM World Supercross Championship (WSX) has revealed its complete SX2 250cc class lineup.
With seven teams across both the SX2 250cc class and premier WSX 450cc class, a total of 28 riders will compete in the series on a full-time basis in 2024 (14 riders per class), with up to four Wildcard entries appearing in each event.
Featuring a mixture of new names and familiar faces, the 2024 SX2 grid blends youth with experience to create the ultimate showdown as soon as the season gets underway in Vancouver, Canada, on 26 October.
Alongside the return of 2022 champion, Shane McElrath, the 2024 season will see Brazil’s Enzo Lopes set out on a highly anticipated comeback campaign, while Maxime Desprey and PMG’s Kyle Chisholm will also compete for title glory. Coty Schock, who finished third in AMA Supercross 250SX East is just one of six exciting young rookies on the grid, including Ryder Kingsford and Calvin Fonvieille.
After the inaugural WSX Canadian GP, the season will continue on 23-24 November with the WSX Australian GP at HBF Park in Perth. The season will close with the WSX Abu Dhabi GP in the United Arab Emirates on 4 December.
Tom Burwell, CEO, FIM World Supercross Championship, said: “With the WSX Canadian GP just around the corner, I’m delighted to confirm our complete SX2 rider lineup for the 2024 season. Over the past two years, SX2 has been a hard-fought class, and has provided the perfect opportunity for our riders to showcase their ability on the world stage. This year, we have some very exciting storylines, with Shane [McElrath] hunting down his second championship title, Enzo [Lopes] making his Supercross comeback after being on the sidelines for the majority of 2024, Maxime [Desprey] and Kyle [Chisholm] chasing top honours, and Cole Thompson racing full-time after some standout performances last year. We also have some very exciting rookies on the grid, and with that in mind, I think we’re looking at a fascinating and exciting championship fight. 2024 is going to be unforgettable.”
