Pauls Jonass of the Standing Construct Honda MXGP team rode a strong seventh race of the MXGP World Championship in St. Jean d’Angely, France. Jonass finished fifth in the first moto and added a good third place in the second moto.
The seventh race of the world championship was held on the legendary circuit of St. Jean d’Angely. Even though it had rained a lot on the days leading up to the event, the track was in pretty good condition on Saturday morning. Jonass set an eighth fastest time in time practice and was ready for the qualifying heat. However, before the heat it started to rain, which made the conditions completely different. On the slippery circuit, Jonass was hit at the first corner of the start by a rider who had lost control and due to this the front brake caliper mounting buckled, forcing him to retire from the race.
In the first heat on Sunday, Jonass got a very bad start but after an incredible first lap he came by start/finish in ninth. Jonass was riding strong and managed to gain several places and finished in a good fifth place.
A lot of rain was coming down before and during the second moto, meant that they had to ride again in the mud. Jonass narrowly missed the holeshot and started the race in fifth place after a few turns. Riding in a controlled manner, he steadily rose to the front throughout the race and eventually took a strong third place.
With a 5-3 in the motos, Jonass finished fifth in the day’s standings and this is also his position in the world championship standings. In the weekend of the 1st and 2th of June, the championship continues in Teutschenthal, Germany.
