All four rounds of the 2020 Dutch Masters have been cancelled – the series will not run! That announced filtered through from the promoters just moments ago. The full press release is below.

Press Release

The clubs were ready – an impressive field of top riders was ready – but unfortunately Dutch Masters of Motocross 2020 is cancelled. It was a tough decision for the KNMV and partners, but the impact of the coronavirus crisis makes it impossible to push through for this season.

Due to the measures taken against the coronavirus, the curtain for the opening round in Harfsen on March 29 already fell last week. In addition, we are dealing with changes in the MXGP calendar. As a result, the Dutch Masters final for the 250cc and 500cc at the Zwarte Cross already became a no-go. Other free weekends are also filling up fast. That makes moving race days difficult, if not without a chance. In short: There is no longer a possibility to hold a full-fledged Dutch Masters of Motocross competition in 2020.

Your Health.

Moreover, there are currently more important issues in society than motocross. The health and safety of riders, teams, fans and all volunteers at the organising clubs is always our priority. This is a tough pill to swallow not just for the KNMV, but especially for the organising clubs MC Hamac Harfsen, Stichting Circuit Oldebroek, MACRO Rhenen and MACL/Zwarte Cross and all their volunteers. They would love to have had a great season with the riders, teams and sponsors.

2021

This must now wait until 2021. Thanks to the support of our main sponsors Jumbo and Red Bull, we can continue the competition next year! In the meantime, the KNMV is looking at possibilities to add a number of regular ONK races to the 2020 motocross calendar. We are also working on a new programme for the Friday (July 17) and Sunday (July 19) of the Zwarte Cross.

The MX2 class is full of young and motivated riders and Lucas and Sacha Coenen will join them for Lierop. These talented twins regularly impressed in the MX2 World Championship last year and Lucas won his first Grand Prix in Indonesia at the age of sixteen.

A fifth place was his share in the final standings and he certainly wants to improve on that this year. Sacha also regularly showed that he has the speed to compete at the front. Highlights were his second place in the qualifying heat in Finland and top five finishes in the Czech Republic and Sweden.

In the deep sand of Lierop, the Coenen brothers will compete against riders like Kay de Wolf, Cas Valk, Hakon Osterhagen, Max Werner, Scott Smulders, Bradley Mesters, Hakon Fredriksen, Oriol Oliver and others.

Also in the 500 class we get fireworks with the participation of Jeffrey Herlings, Jago Geerts, Pauls Jonass, Calvin Vlaanderen, Brent van Doninck and others.

The weather forecast looks good, so the Dutch MX Season Opener in Lierop has all the ingredients to see a great day of racing.
