The Latest: Joey Savatgy
Joey Savatgy suffers blow in Australia.
Joey Savatgy has had an eventful off-season. It took much longer than anyone expected for him to put pen to paper and sign with the JGR Yoshimura Suzuki Factory Racing team, but he finally did that on the day before the Paris supercross. One would think the stress would end at that point, right? Well, he travelled to New Zealand after competing in Paris and had a turbulent time with crashes and bike issues.
It was not a disaster though – he escaped unscathed and returned to testing once landing in the USA. The final race on Joey Savatgy’s off-season tour was the AUS-X Open this past weekend, so he travelled over to Melbourne to gain more knowledge on the RM-Z450 and start the final phase of his preparation for Anaheim 1. A fall during the daytime programme left him with a ankle/foot injury though. Reports suggest it could be as serious as a broken heel, but an official report has not been released. Savatgy did drop the following statement though.
“It’s easy to ask why. But hard to accept and move on. Had a freak deal hitting neutral as I took off the face and the rest is history. Can’t thank the whole medic crew, @JHLeale and @MrsTwoTwo enough for taking care of me and getting me situated. Really bummed I wasn’t able to race, the boys from @SXOpenSupercross crushed it. As for #Team17 we will be back, when I have an idea so will you.”
This post will be updated as soon as more information becomes available. Stay tuned to MX Vice for more.
