When Chad Reed crashed out of the twelfth 2019 Monster Energy Supercross round, Seattle, in March, it did not take long for him to proclaim that racing Las Vegas was high on his list of priorities. Overcoming eight broken ribs, a broken scapula and a collapsed lung was obviously going to be a tall order though. Now, with the finale just days away, Ellie Reed has taken to social media to confirm that it is not going to be possible. There is some tasty information about next year as well though.
"Miss seeing this guy in a helmet! He has been pissed off all week knowing he can't race this weekend. His scapula was broken like a plate you drop on the floor and it's in six pieces. The ligaments that join to those bones are not stable, which make it FEEL like he has torn rotator cuff. He has raced with a broken scapula before and many other serious injuries and if he was in championship contention he would have showed up and rode. With no major gains to make and only risk involved he made an adult decision to sit out.
"Tell you kid they can't have something and now you see Chad's face all week. The [goal] is now to create for the future and he wants to continue racing! Hoping with the help of some great sponsors and team we can start preparing early and come in ready for a successful season! As the Supercross winds down this weekend really it's now time to go to work! Success doesn't just happen! It takes preparation planning and time and that we haven't had in years. It's been a throw together in Nov/Dec. That's not how you show up to win. We have played this game a long time and we're still all in."
It is quite clear that Chad Reed wants to race again, but will he get a ride? The contract that he has with JGR Yoshimura Suzuki Factory Racing was just for one year, so will expire shortly, which creates more questions than answers. Time will tell.
