The Grand Prix of Trentino marks the conclusion of a vicious three-week run for those contesting the 2019 FIM Motocross World Championship. Is anyone going to sneak in a return to racing before the extremely long break before round five? A full list of injury updates can be found below.
In for the MXGP of Trentino
Brian Moreau: Brian Moreau was very impressive when he first hit the track at the Grand Prix of Patagonia-Argentina, but it did not last long. Moreau crashed in time practice and cracked his arm. The injury was not too serious though and, consequently, he will return to racing at Pietramurata this weekend.
Benoit Paturel: Benoit Paturel was really struggling with arm pump at the pre-season events in Italy and a trip to his doctor later confirmed that he needs surgery. That was completed before round one in Argentina and now, following a swift recovery, it has been confirmed that he will return to racing this weekend.
Iker Larranaga: Iker Larranaga crashed rather hard at the opening round of the 2019 FIM Motocross World Championship and immediately moved onto the sidelines with a broken collarbone. There is good news at this point though, as his return has been pencilled in for the Grand Prix of Trentino this weekend.
Dylan Walsh: Dylan Walsh bowed out of round three of the 2019 FIM Motocross World Championship, as he crashed hard in the qualifying race and was struck by another guy. Walsh has rested since then, in order to ensure that he will be able to compete at the Grand Prix of Trentino this weekend.
Out of the MXGP of Trentino
Jeffrey Herlings: Jeffrey Herlings broke his foot in January and is not in a spot to even consider lining up at the highest level at the moment. Herlings has not learnt that he can begin riding at the end of April though, so things are going to start moving soon enough. Could he be back for the Grand Prix of Lombardia?
Dean Ferris: Dean Ferris had an awful debut with the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing squad, as he ended the Grand Prix of Great Britain with an injured knee. That issue forced him to return to Australia, in order to be evaluated, so his stint in Europe is over.
Romain Febvre: Romain Febvre crashed extremely hard in the second moto at the Grand Prix of Patagonia-Argentina and broke his talus, which is a bone that makes up a part of his ankle joint. There is currently no timeline on his recovery.
Max Nagl: Max Nagl popped his knee out at the first round of the 2019 FIM Motocross World Championship in Argentina and is, unsurprisingly, missing in action currently whilst he recovers. There is a chance that he will be behind the starting line at the following Grand Prix in Mantova.
Mikkel Haarup: Mikkel Haarup has had a rough start to his maiden MX2 campaign, as he got taken out by another rider at the Grand Prix of Great Britain and broke his collarbone. Haarup is expected to return in a little over a month, when the Grand Prix contingent hit Mantova.
Nathan Renkens: Nathan Renkens, who now runs his own team, was hit by an injury at the previous round of the 2019 FIM Motocross World Championship. Renkens tore his ACL and now has surgery scheduled for later this week, so will be out for the foreseeable.
Evgeny Bobryshev: Evgeny Bobryshev is having a tough time with an undiagnosed wrist injury he sustained in January. Nothing was broken, nor was it dislocated, but it is still not healing quite as expected. Bobryshev will be out for the foreseeable whilst he attempts to diagnose the issue.
Kevin Strijbos: Kevin Strijbos underwent surgery on his injured elbow, after riding in the United States back in February. The injury that hindered him throughout the final portion of the previous term had not healed correctly and, at the time of writing, there is no timeline on his recovery. Strijbos has not started riding yet.
Brian Hsu: Brian Hsu tends to fly under the radar and, funnily enough, this year is no different. It is thought that Hsu is out with a back injury, although there are no more details available. There is no timeline on his recovery or real details on what has gone on.
