The 2019 FIM Motocross World Championship edged closer to the starting point earlier today, as riders and teams surveyed the circuit at the Grand Prix of Patagonia-Argentina and placed the finishing touches on their respective set-ups. A handful of elite names made their way to the pre-season press conference too and offered up some insight ahead of the new season. What did Antonio Cairoli, Clement Desalle, Tim Gajser, Pauls Jonass, Romain Febvre and Jorge Prado have to say? Read on.
Antonio Cairoli: "The race is amazing and organisation is fantastic. Also, because we have such great fans here in South America, it's nice to come here and meet them and start the season here with the good weather. Normally it's also a good thing. So, about the race, it's a long season, so we don't really know about winning or not. Our goal is to stay healthy, to stay in front and go for another title. That's the main goal. So about the win, for sure it's nice because I never had the win here. It's really early. Really nice if I can have it, but it's not a priority for sure. I'm looking more for a good season and consistency."
Clement Desalle: "It's true. 2018 has been really good for me, a consistent year. It was a result. That was good. I have a new bike so I keep working on the same way with some new data. The new bike gives me a lot of good things to be better. Some were positive for this year. I’m really looking forward to a good result and at the same time keep the same philosophy of being consistent, winning motos and GPs. We're positive for that and motivated. It's really great. I hope we really do again a great job this year and stay healthy. It's one of the keys, of course, so the winter has been good for me. We test good with the team. Everything went under control and that's great. I cannot wait for the gate drop and start the season."
Tim Gajser: "First of all, it's nice to be here after last year missing this GP. We had a good winter. I feel really good on the bike. We trained well with the team, with everybody. I'm really excited to start this season here in Argentina. I really like that track. In the past I have good races here, so I'm really excited to be here and to finally start the season."
Pauls Jonass: "Actually this track is I would say one of my favourite tracks in the GP calendar. I was really looking forward to coming here. Every year I'm looking forward to come here. Last year in the end of the season I got injured, so the off-season wasn't the best for me because I couldn't ride the bike so much. I've been on the bike now for one month, but it was a good month. I'm feeling pretty comfortable on the bike at the moment. For sure I'm not close to 100%, but I'm really comfortable. Really happy with the team and everything. So we came here without really any expectations. Just I'm enjoying every minute here and every second. It's nice to be back racing. Also just to learn about the bike and everything for the season overall."
Romain Febvre: "Yes. The last two years have been really complicated for me and then we finally find a really good thing with the bike and my riding style. The pre-season showed some good things, but I felt a lot of stress because since Turkey I didn't race. It was five months, almost six, that I've been not racing. I was a little bit tight, but now it's okay. The last race I did in France was really good for me. I'm ready for this weekend."
Jorge Prado: "Yeah, 2018 was a very good year, very consistent. We will try to do the same this year and improve. For sure, our goal is improve. We had a really good off-season, good pre-season races and we are feeling very good coming into this first round. Hopefully we come out of this round with a good result."
