There are a lot of question marks surrounding Valentin Guillod, one of the unsigned stars in the FIM Motocross World Championship, currently and intrigue was sparked (as well as some wayward claims) when images appeared of him riding a Kawasaki in the United States. Guillod has made no secret about the fact that he would like to race in the USA in the past, so some paired those facts together and came to a false conclusion.
Guillod has no plans to race a Kawasaki in the USA or Europe nor does he call America home now. In fact, he has already returned to Europe. Why was he here then? '92' was on holiday with his cousin and felt that this would be a good opportunity to get back to riding, following some hard hits in Paris and Geneva. Although he did reach out to an American team, nothing came of that and he is now focussed on putting in laps at RedSand in Spain so that he is ready should a fill-in opportunity arise in the MXGP class. Again, he has no links to Kawasaki. The bike he was riding was a 2018 KX450F loaned by a ride company!
Guillod admitted in an exclusive MX Vice interview in December that he was offered a deal with his previous team, Standing Construct KTM, for the upcoming season, but chose to decline in an effort to record better results and prove he deserves a lucrative contract. A virus stopped that from happening and he is now waiting for doors to open. In his own words: "It is like poker. I played and I lost."
