Injury News: Martin Update

Jeremy Martin undergoes successful surgery

The deal of the day on 24MX.

Jeremy Martin underwent surgery at The Steadman Clinic, in Colorado, earlier this week to correct the back surgery that didn't heal properly the first time around. Martin sustained a burst fracture of his L1 vertebra at round five of the 2018 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross series and was initially expected to return to racing in the first half of this year, but it then became apparent that no progress had been made since the first surgery six months ago.

"Just a quick little update," Martin said on his social-media accounts. "We had surgery yesterday and was under the gun for about four hours. It was a really successful surgery – the surgeon was super happy. He took all of the hardware out and put new hardware in. It is not as long, so I should have some more mobility on the top and bottom of the spine. Yeah, it should heal one hundred percent this time. I am looking forward to the recovery process, getting back out there and giving it the beans on that GEICO Honda."

Although Jeremy Martin will not race at all this year, the GEICO Honda squad signed a two-year extension with him. Martin will therefore race for the team in 2020 and 2021.
