The Michelin MX Nationals calendar was turned upside down, following the unfortunate cancellation of round one earlier this month. FatCat Moto Parc was set to host that first round, but rain battered the venue and rendered it useless. The Michelin MX Nationals team got to work immediately following that decision to cancel, however, in a bid to find a suitable replacement.
The first round will now be held at Preston Docks on the first weekend in April, then visits to Lyng and Hawkstone Park will follow that. The replacement, Sherwood, will play host to the fourth round on the second weekend in July. The venue has not been a part of the series before, but various changes will be implemented in an attempt to turn it into a national-level track. Ashley Wilde and Nathan Dixon, of the RFX KTM team, will work with the track owners to create a longer lap and new obstacles.
"It's my first trip to Sherwood, but instantly I could see the potential for a national-level circuit that would make an excellent addition to the MX Nationals series," commented Paul Irwin in a press release. "It's great to work with someone like Barry [Dring], who is passionate about making the best circuit possible, and I can't wait to see the final results. It's going to make some great racing – that's for sure."
